In this unusual year of 2020, the world is ongoing a tough time. But no matter how hard life is, art will always be there. At the start of the new semester, Mr. Chenyun Hu, a national first class instrumentalist playing Suona in Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, visited SCLS and brought us a brilliant Chinese folk music show with his team. On September 24th and 28th, this performance will be broadcasted on Bilibili for more than 1300 SCLS students from 36 countries and regions.
The show started with Song of the Phoenix, one of the most classic Chinese folk musics. It combines the vitality of nature with the sounds of living creatures with happy melody.
Besides the traditional classic music, lots of popular elements were added to the show. The artists also performed songs from well-known movies and animations to make students feel closed to Chinese folk music and get intrested in it.
In the ensemble Big Fish, Mucheng Jin, a 5th grader of SCLS, played flute together with the artist. Jin has been studying flute playing since she was very young. She showed great passion on the traditional Chinese music. With every fingertip flying on the flute, she brought everyone an impressive beautiful melody.
With a history of thousands of years, Chinese folk music is the treasure of our traditional culture. As the consultant of SCLS folk orchestra, Mr. Chenyun Hu highly values the cultural heritage of Chinese folk music and will continue work on its inheritation among young generations.
Art understanding and practice is a key to inherit the gem of Chinese traditional culture. The SCLS Chinese Folk Music Series aim to promote students' understanding and love for Chinese traditional art, and encourage them to keep our culture alive.
