The Primary School International Division(PSID)has over 470 students in grades one through grade five with two homeroom teachers for each class. There are no more than 24 students in each class with a teacher-student ration of 1:14. Located in Building “A”, the school has spacious hallways geared towards mini assemblies, concerts, art shows and rainy-day indoor games. All courses are taught in English except for Chinese and Mathematics. Starting from the 5th grade, students will gradually transfer from Chinese Math to Math in English. After entering the Middle School, Mathematics will be taught entirely in English.
Our school combine the Chinese National Curriculum and the US Common Core Curriculum in teaching. There are currently 29 western staff including teachers and administrators who come from the United States, the UK, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, Portugal and Serbia.

The Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys Program is a research-based reading program designed to meet diverse needs of the students from Kindergarten through grade six. It includes the key elements of reading instructions such as reading comprehension skills. The Journeys program also provides students with different capabilities they need for future success and ultimately prepares them for high literacy requirements in universities and the workplace.
Meanwhile, the program provides an instructional system for reading both literature and informational texts, so as to acquire basic skills and develop mastery of speaking, listening and writing.
Our Mathematics teaching is mainly based on textbooks of Shanghai Education Edition, which focuses on development of students’ thinking patterns and their ability to explore solutions to diversified problems. Combining the foreign language courses and open mind in the international division, the children have realized openness, diversity and internationalization through the reconstruction of mathematics and the process of solving problems. To better connect with the English Mathematics course in the middle school, the primary school has set up Math review classes in English from grade 3 to grade 5. At the same time, for students whose mother tongue is not Chinese, the school offers Math in English course, which uses the American textbook ENVISION MATH 2.0 and aims to forming an open and inclusive teaching system.
Based on textbooks of People's Education Press, our Chinese curriculum focuses on delivering knowledge in Chinese literacy to the students and stimulating their interest in reading through reading projects and traditional cultural activities. Our goal is to allow students to be immersed in Chinese learning, promote diversified thinking and feel the beauty of Chinese culture.
FOSS (Full Option Science System) is a research-based science curriculum for grades K-8 developed at the Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California, Berkeley. FOSS has evolved from a philosophy of teaching and learning that has guided the development of successful active-learning science curricula for more than 40 years. The FOSS Program bridges research and practice by providing tools and strategies to engage students and teachers in enduring experiences that lead to deeper understanding of the natural and designed worlds.
Comprised of four main disciplines Geography Economics Civics Civics History.Geography, economics, civics and history provide skills in critical thinking, self-assessment, reasoning, problem solving, collaboration, research, and investigation to make connections in new and innovative ways as students progress through the social studies education. The knowledge and skills developed in this program are instrumental to preparing citizens to participate in society, to understanding the complexity of the world around them, and to comprehend the interdependencies that influence the present and share the future.
Physical Education (PE) builds students' confidence in taking part in a variety of physical activities both inside and outside the school. Our PE curriculum enables all students to enjoy and succeed in various physical activities. Through professional training, they have developed a wide range of skills, as well as the ability to use tactics and strategies to perform successfully. In the meantime, they reflect on what they excel in, analyze the situation and make decisions during the activities. They are also encouraged to compare their own performances with the others' and find ways to improve upon them. The school aims at providing all students with a friendly environment in which they become confident both physically and mentally, and meanwhile, understand the value of health and active lifestyles.
Exploration of visual arts and design is about invention, creation and innovation. Building on the development of ideas through a process of inquiry, discovery and research leads to the creation of works of art. It also prepares students for independent and lifelong learning of Arts. Furthermore, participation in the visual arts provides students with unique experiences and skills in developing important traits for success in the 21st century. Studying arts and design requires inquiry, posing and solving problems, critical thinking, perseverance, re-purposing, taking risks, persuading and inspiring.
By implementing a structured and standard-based music education, students continue the generational conversation and become fluent in the language of music as a manner of artistic, intellectual and cultural expression. The acts of performing, creating and responding to music provide a means for development of the ability to express the otherwise inexpressible, and facilitate growth in academic development.
Learning to read and notate music opens for students the limitless body of musical styles, forms and repertoire, and allows them to see what they hear or hear what they see. The interconnections in music bring together the understanding of contemporary and historical cultures as well as self- knowledge. Participation in music provides students with unique experiences and skills essential for self-development in the 21st-century.
