Quarter 2 Performance Tasks

Celebrating Learning in Action

P S I D

As we come to the end of an exciting Quarter 2, we are proud to celebrate the rich learning experiences our students have taken part in across the primary school. Throughout the quarter, students were given authentic opportunities to take what they had learned and apply it in meaningful, hands-on ways. These performance tasks encouraged students to move beyond practice and into purposeful action—creating, designing, explaining, and sharing their thinking with confidence.

Across grade levels, classrooms were filled with energy, curiosity, and creativity. Students were not only engaged in their learning, but deeply invested in the process of bringing ideas to life. Whether working independently or collaboratively, every child had the chance to explore their strengths, take risks, and demonstrate understanding in ways that felt meaningful to them.

In Grade 1, students used imagination and creativity to design shadow puppets, using light and shadows to tell a story or communicate a message. Grade 2 students became problem-solvers, tackling real-world challenges by planning, building, testing, and improving designs using carefully chosen materials. These experiences encouraged perseverance, teamwork, and thoughtful decision-making.

As students moved into the upper grades, the complexity of the tasks increased, along with student ownership and independence. Grade 4 students combined research, creativity, and critical thinking to design a sustainable settlement on a newly discovered planet, carefully considering how environments can both support and challenge human life. Grade 5 students explored real-world migration stories, analyzing how natural disasters force people to move and using geographic tools to clearly explain patterns and choices through detailed visual presentations.

What stood out most this quarter was how every student was given opportunities to shine. Performance tasks are intentionally designed to value multiple strengths—creativity, communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and perseverance—allowing students to demonstrate their understanding in diverse ways. These experiences ensure that learning is inclusive, engaging, and meaningful for all learners.

Quarter 2’s performance tasks highlight the power of meaningful learning experiences that invite students to apply their thinking, showcase their strengths, and engage deeply in the learning process. The growth, creativity, and enthusiasm demonstrated by our students continue to shape our teaching and learning approach across the school.
