Wax Museum
This quarter, our fourth-grade students in the Primary School International Division became historians, researchers, writers, and performers through an exciting interdisciplinary unit on Changemakers. Throughout the unit, students explored the lives of individuals who made a positive impact on the world through courage, creativity, leadership, perseverance, and compassion.
As part of their culminating performance task, students transformed the fourth-grade hallway into a living Wax Museum. Each student selected a Changemaker to research and portray, ranging from scientists and activists to athletes, artists, inventors, and world leaders. Students studied their chosen person’s life, accomplishments, challenges, and lasting contributions before writing informative biographies and preparing first-person presentations.
Wax Museum
On Wax Museum day, students arrived dressed as their Changemaker and stood proudly beside their displays, ready to “come to life” when visitors approached. Guests were invited to walk through the museum, learn about influential figures from history and modern times, and hear students speak passionately about the people they represented.
One of the highlights of the event was welcoming our second grade reading buddies for a special VIP experience. The younger students were invited to tour the museum first, giving them extra time to ask questions, interact with the presenters, and learn from their fourth-grade partners. The fourth graders enjoyed sharing their knowledge and practicing their public speaking skills with an authentic audience, while the second graders were inspired by the creativity and confidence on display.
Wax Museum
The Wax Museum was a wonderful celebration of learning that combined research, writing, speaking, creativity, and collaboration. Most importantly, it encouraged students to reflect on how ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference in the world. Through this experience, students not only learned about Changemakers from the past and present but also began to consider how they themselves can create positive change in their communities.
