Our primary school gymnasium came alive in the most extraordinary way this week as we hosted our first PSID International Fair—a vibrant celebration that transformed the space into a hub of culture, curiosity, and connection. Stepping into the gym felt like entering a miniature world tour, where each corner revealed a new country, a new activity, and a new story. With representations from more than 30 countries and regions, the fair was a joyful reflection of the global spirit within our school community.
This exciting event marked the culmination of our month-long focus on global awareness. What students had been learning in their classrooms came to life in the most hands-on, engaging way. The fair was a true team effort, bringing together parents, students, and homeroom teachers to create a morning full of discovery. The energy was contagious—buzzing with laughter, movement, and a shared sense of excitement.
A standout feature of the day was our student ambassadors, who proudly guided visitors through the countries or regions their classes had studied. They shared facts, explained traditions, and led activities with confidence and enthusiasm. It was inspiring to see students take the lead, turning their learning into something they could teach and share with others.
Each booth offered something unique. At Canada, students tested their aim in a hockey shooting challenge, while Spain brought plenty of laughter with a tomato throwing game inspired by La Tomatina. In Bhutan, students created colorful prayer flags, adding messages of hope and kindness. At Italy, intricate Venetian masks took shape, while in Egypt, students practiced writing their names in hieroglyphics.
Across the gym, creativity was everywhere. Japan’s booth invited students to try origami, transforming simple paper into delicate creations. At China, the gentle sounds of the traditional guzheng instrument created a calm and captivating moment amid the excitement. At Mexico, students proudly shook maracas they had made themselves, filling the space with rhythm and energy.
There were plenty of discoveries along the way. At Peru, students explored vibrant textiles and learned the differences between alpacas and llamas. In Iceland, they created their own Viking-inspired names, adding a playful twist to language and history. Many booths also featured authentic dress, bringing color and tradition to life and giving students a glimpse into cultures around the world.
The fair was made even more special by the incredible support of our parent community. Parent representatives from China, Malaysia, Argentina, Italy, Iran, Bhutan, Canada, the Netherlands, and the United States shared their knowledge and experiences, adding depth and authenticity to each station. Their involvement helped turn the gym into a truly immersive global experience.
As students made their way from booth to booth, they carried “Around the World” bingo cards, collecting stickers as they completed activities and learned new information. Each sticker marked a small achievement and encouraged students to keep exploring, making the experience both fun and meaningful.
The PSID International Fair was more than just a fun morning—it was a lively celebration of global learning in action. Students explored, created, and connected with cultures from around the world, bringing a month of discovery to life while strengthening our school community and building excitement for next year’s fair.
For now, we carry forward the spirit of the day—a celebration of diversity, collaboration, and discovery. This experience reminds us that within our own school community, there is always more to learn from one another, and we continually strengthen the connections that make our community so special.
