Hopefully, you enjoyed last year's TEDxSoongChingLingSchool! (If not, you should definitely come this time!!) We're coming back again with a brand new topic to discuss, now!

What is TEDx?

"TEDx is a grassroots initiative, created in the spirit of TED's overall mission to research and discover 'ideas worth spreading.' TEDx brings the spirit of TED to local communities around the globe through TEDx events. TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less)."

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxSoongChingLingSchool, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxSoongChingLingSchool event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

TEDx's three characters each represent —— T: technology 科技; E: entertainment娱乐; D: design 设计。

What is TEDxCountdown?

Climate change has been discussed over the past decade frequently. It is caused by the increase in greenhouse gasses. It is a global crisis that started ever since the Industrial Revolution and has become a severe and urgent problem that we have to deal with.

Recent extreme weather and natural disasters all made us realize: if we don’t do something to help the situation now, we will receive the consequences ourselves.

Therefore, the Countdown event was formulated "to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis, turning ideas into action." The goal of the Countdown event is to bring in more people around the world to build a future that is safer, cleaner and fairer for everyone, where it aims for cutting greenhouse gases emissions in half by 2030.

What is TEDxSoongChingLingSchool? How are we going to present it to you?

Our TEDxSoongChingLingSchool event will have speeches made by our students and even guest speakers that have authority in the environmental science realm. TED always advocate for inspirational and creative means of presentations, such as art performances. This year, we will have an art gallery under the theme, "Our Mother Earth."We welcome all students in the school to submit artwork and even short poems about the theme that takes the audience on a journey around the planet through an artistic lens.
