"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." – Albert Einstein
Without imagination, scientific discovery would be impossible, and without discoveries, the world we live in today would look very different. At SCLS, the Middle School Science Fair is an annual tradition that fosters curiosity, inspires creativity, and encourages students to explore the wonders of science. This year’s Science Fair marked its fifth anniversary and was once again nothing short of inspiring. Read on to experience our showcase of innovation, collaboration, and learning.
A Three-Day Science Extravaganza
Over the course of 3 days, students from Middle School International Division showcased their work in interactive classroom exhibitions. These sessions welcomed teachers and peers to explore a variety of engineering design products and research projects, sparking discussions about the students' findings and their hard work in modelling methods.
The open and collaborative atmosphere made the fair a festival of shared ideas, where young scientists could proudly explain their discoveries and the creative process behind them.
The Science Show: A Spotlight on Excellence
The grand finale of the event was the Science Show, where the top two projects from Grades 6, 7, and 8 were presented to an enthusiastic audience of students and teachers. These presentations highlighted not only scientific problem-solving but also the creativity and dedication of the students involved.
Grade 6 Presentations
How Can the Temperature of Water and the Material of the Bottle Affect the Inflation of a Balloon?
Presented by Rachel Chong and Jocelyn Yang
How Can a Magnet’s Strength Be Affected by Temperature?
Presented by Bryan Xue and Andrew Zhou
Grade 7 Presentations
Solar Airplane
Presented by Ryan Zhang, Julian Kok, and Thomas Xiao
Electric Core
Sarah Qiu, Nicole Chen, Paris Wei, and Sally Bi
Grade 8 Presentation
The Impact of Air Pressure on the Movement of Projectiles
The Impact of Air Pressure on the Movement of Projectiles
Earthquake Simulation: Which Type of Bridge is the Strongest?
Presented by Elvis Chen, Joey Yang, and William Li
Each presentation allowed students to explain their hypotheses, experiments, results, Each presentation allowed students to explain their hypotheses, experiments, results, and conclusions. The effort and enthusiasm behind each project were clear, and every presenter walked away with a well-deserved goodie bag, which included the Science Fair Trophy.
High School Lab Demonstrations: Science in Action
Adding to the excitement, high school students took the stage to give live demonstrations of advanced scientific concepts, providing middle schoolers a glimpse of what lies ahead in their academic journey.
From the Chemists
Magic Kettle
Shiwen and Cherry captivated the audience with their "Magic Kettle," a fascinating experiment that allowed them to pour liquids of different colors on demand. Their demonstration blended chemistry and physics in a way that felt almost magical.
Fireworks Chemistry
Elizabeth, Ariel, and Yining introduced the science behind fireworks, showcasing how metallic elements produce unique colors when burned. Their colorful experiment was both mesmerizing and educational, connecting the periodic table to real-world applications.
Cell Songs from the Biologists
Sammi took a creative approach to biology by creating a music video about cell organelles and their functions. Jerry, Brian, and Sky performed a live rendition of Cell Organelle Pie, a clever and entertaining parody of the classic song American Pie. The audience loved this fun, musical twist on science!
These demonstrations brought an extra layer of excitement to the fair and inspired younger students to see science not just as a subject, but as a field full of creativity and possibilities.
不仅仅是一个科学展
The SCLS Science Fair isn’t just about showcasing projects—it’s about celebrating curiosity, encouraging collaboration, and curating a lifelong love for discovery. This year’s fair brought together students, teachers, and parents in a supportive and energizing environment that reflected the spirit of learning.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated and grateful to the teachers and families whose hard work and support made this event possible.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s fair and can’t wait to see what new ideas our students will explore! Stay curious, and we’ll see you at the next SCLS Science Fair!
