SCLS IDMS & IDHS

Recently, the International Division of Song Ching Ling School welcomed the highly anticipated Chinese Culture Festival. The event, themed "Traveling Thousands of Miles and Reading Thousands of Books," was divided into two main sections: "Traveling Thousands of Miles—Echoes of History and Dialogue with Modernity" and "Reading Thousands of Books—Sparks of Thought and Cultural Debates." Students from different grade levels presented the festival in various forms, vividly showcasing the profound depth and diverse charm of Chinese culture. Every segment left the audience captivated and longing for more.

Traveling Thousands of Miles—Echoes of History and Dialogue with Modernity

The event began with the eighth-grade students presenting a news broadcast that took the audience on a journey through the various grades overnight trips to different regions in China. These experiences not only allowed students to appreciate the natural beauty and cultural landscapes of various areas but also enabled them to interact with local people, learn about and understand minority cultures feeling the ripples of history throughout our modern life. Whether through classroom learning or hands-on experiences, the students demonstrated their deep understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.

Sixth-grade students performed a skit that brought historical artifacts to life, humorously showing the dialogue between ancient culture and contemporary life. The students explored the fascinating intersection of past and present, and their stellar performance earned applause from the audience. Meanwhile, the tenth-grade students created a documentary that delved into Guizhou, capturing the traditional cultures and regional characteristics of the Miao, Shui, and other ethnic minorities. The documentary transported viewers into a colorful world, showcasing how "traveling thousands of miles" can uncover the depth and warmth of culture.

Reading Thousands of Books—Sparks of Thought and Cultural Debates

The seventh-grade video drama "Hundred Schools of Thought" presented ancient Chinese philosophy in an easy-to-understand and lively short play format. Through small stories, the students showcased the wisdom of Confucianism, Taoism, Mohism, Legalism, and other philosophical schools, allowing the audience to not only feel the charm of these thoughts but also gain new insights into history and philosophy through laughter.

The ninth-grade poetry performance, "Poetry of Youth," centered on original poems and, through elegant language and stage design, expressed love for the seasons and youth. It also showcased the students’ literary talents. The ancient poetry competition created the climax of the event. Contestants demonstrated their deep knowledge and quick thinking on Chinese traditional literature through a series of rounds, including the "Fei Hua Ling" a poetry game. The audience’s cheers and applause transformed the competition into a literary feast.

The most entertaining segment was the foreign teachers' singing quiz. The teachers showcased their talents through singing, while the students actively participated by guessing which teacher was performing. Mr. Appel’s rendition of “Little Apple” stole the show with his humorous delivery and interaction with the audience, bringing the atmosphere to an exhilarating peak.

ENDING

At the end of the event, the traditional Chinese costume Hanfu fashion show provided a perfect conclusion to the cultural festival. Students, dressed in various styles of traditional Han Chinese clothing, confidently displayed the unique beauty of Chinese attire. The audience was thoroughly enchanted by the charm of the culture.

This cultural festival was not only a cross-grade exhibition of academic achievements but also a vivid cultural heritage experience. From the practical reflections of "traveling thousands of miles" to the intellectual collisions of "reading thousands of books," Song Ching Ling School created a platform where history, literature, and modern dialogues merged. It perfectly embodied the combination of "travel" and "reading." As the audience cheered and applauded, the Chinese Culture Festival concluded successfully, leaving a lasting cultural resonance and intellectual inspiration in the hearts of all who participated.
