Hispanic Show
“La pequeña Habana”
This year's Hispanic Show, themed "The Little Havana," brought the essence of Miami's Cuban culture to life. Hosted by Sevilla, Loic, Cherry and Faye, the event featured an exciting lineup of performances, music and storytelling.
The celebration began with a heartfelt video from Mr. Valdés, setting an energetic tone as we all miss him, followed by an introduction to La Pequeña Habana by two ninth grade students.
Highlights included a vibrant flag parade featuring the flags of various Hispanic countries, each symbolizing the pride and history of its people in Latin America. The ninth graders then captivated the audience with a reader's theater performance, while the tenth graders presented a humorous take on three famous Mexican stories and two videos of students re-enacting two of their favorite movies: Inside Out and Elsa, which the audience enjoyed and laughed along with.
A trivia showdown between the Spanish teachers and the eleventh graders added a competitive twist to the show. The teachers were quick and they won the game! Swimming Coconuts delighted us with Havana, and then some teachers danced on stage to say goodbye to this year's show.
The Hispanic Show was a beautiful celebration of culture, creativity and school community that fostered an appreciation for the rich traditions of Hispanic heritage.

G8 Spanish Students Shine at Food Taste Exposition
On Thursday, October 17th, Soong Ching Ling School (SCLS) celebrated a traditional event as part of the Hispanic Heritage Week—a delicious and interactive Food Taste Exposition. The event took place during Period 5 in the hallway of the 4th floor of the G building, with all students and teachers invited to participate. G8 Spanish students proudly showcased their culinary skills, preparing a wide variety of dishes inspired by Hispanic tapas, pastries, desserts, and traditional drinks.
Students and teachers tasted the diverse array of dishes on display. From savory tapas to mouthwatering pastries, the G8 Spanish students had truly outdone themselves. Each dish was accompanied by a voting card, allowing everyone to rate the dishes on a scale from 1 to 5 stars. This fun and interactive element created a lively atmosphere as everyone shared their opinions on the flavorful creations.
To document the event and enhance the learning experience, G8 Spanish students also created videos that explained the cultural significance of their dishes. The videos not only showcased the food but also highlighted the rich culinary traditions from various Hispanic countries. Many teachers also participated as enthusiastic tasters, contributing their own ratings and feedback. It was a fantastic opportunity for the entire SCLS community to learn more about Hispanic cuisine and culture.

G7 Students Host Piñata Party Extravaganza
On Friday, the School buzzed with excitement as part of the ongoing Hispanic Heritage Week celebrations. The highlight of the day was a fun-filled Piñata Party hosted by the G7 students, who had been working hard in the weeks leading up to the event. After researching the tradition of piñatas, the students designed and crafted their own creative piñatas, incorporating themes from popular video games, Pokémon, and classic colorful designs.

Teachers and G7 students worked together to ensure that each student could participate in a secure space, allowing for plenty of fun while maintaining safety. As students from different grades gathered to watch, they cheered each other on, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and joy.
Throughout the event, more than six piñatas were broken open, sending candy and treats flying through the air to the delight of the participants. Lively Hispanic music played in the background, adding to the festive mood and further immersing everyone in the cultural celebration.
The Piñata Party was a huge success, with students from across all grade levels coming together to celebrate this vibrant Hispanic tradition. The creativity of the G7 students in crafting such unique piñatas, combined with the enthusiasm of the participants, made it a memorable event. It was a day filled with joy, unity, and cultural appreciation, perfectly capturing the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Week at SCLS.
All three events contributed making the Hispanic Heritage week a big success, thanks to the collaboration of the entire World Language Department. Teachers and staff were actively involved, providing, advice, support, and encouragement to the students.
