College counseling will start immediately when students are admitted into SCLS Domestic Department High School (DDHS). Students will learn how to prepare themselves for college application, with a particular focus on what contribute to a good application and how to balance between academic study and extracurricular activities, as well as the criteria from college perspective. Students will also learn basic research and writing skills that are useful for success in future college level courses and later university study. The counselors will focus on developing students’ abilities to research useful information, manage their own time, organize activities and collaborate in teams.
Graduated from Shanghai Foreign Language University in 2009, Master in Education
Upon graduation, she became a part of the preparation work for the China-US collaborative education project at Nanjing Jinling School. She officially joined UCLA Global Classroom Program in 2010 and became a key coordinator in Greater China region. She constructed and improved the structure of English courses based on her abundant working experience. Her work involves college application, curriculum management and program management. She is not only a patient admission officer but also an experienced college counselor, an professional English teacher as well as an academic writing advisor who has been wholeheartedly trusted by students.
In 2018 she joined DDHS, and since then she has taken the role as the college counselor. Monica has 12 years' of experience with high school – university application counseling and is familiar with various application systems overseas. She is particularly professional at application strategy and application writing.
Mr. Kyle Travess comes from Seattle, Washington and has an M.A. in TESOL from Seattle University and an M. Ed. In Education Leadership and Policy from Boston College;
Kyle has been working in the educational field in China for 9 years now, but his experience in education expands beyond that as he has taught English in the US and South America. In addition to preparing his students for the academic and cultural changes that await them as international students, Kyle also enjoys comparing the educational policy of different countries.
Graduated from from Nanjing University with a master's degree in English Language and Literature;
After graduating with a master's degree in 2011, she joined Jinling High School International Department American Division. From 2011 to 2021, she served as a TOEFL teacher while being responsible for team management and daily operation of the program. She was fully involved in enrollment, curriculum development, university application, etc., and accumulated a wealth of international education program management experience;
From 2021 to 2022, she studied in BHGAP (Berkeley Haas Global Access Program) at the University of California, Berkeley, and from 2022 to 2023, she served as the Assistant Director of the Summer Residential Program at the University of California, Berkeley, the Student Services Advisor and Alumni Specialist for the Visiting Program;
Zheng Juanjuan is currently serving as a college counselor and English teacher in DDHS SCLS.
Graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature at Xiamen University with a bachelor's degree and completed master's degree at the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States; have been serving as a high school English teacher and college counsellor at SCLS DDHS since 2019.
Certified as senior coach of China Thinks Big research competition and have been recognized as the "Best Coach" from 2021-2023; provided guidance to more than 10 teams participating in competitions, achieving outstanding results.
Ms. Yue Yuan received her M.A. in Linguistics and Cognitive Science from the University of Delaware. Her main interests are phonetics and phonology, and she has published papers related to these fields.

Ms. Yuan has extensive school-based college counselor experiences; she supports her students with a smooth transition to universities in the US and beyond.
Graduated from the Chinese Department of Huazhong University of Science and Technology as a bachelor and spent her master study at East China Normal University for Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, she is currently the Student Activity Counselor and Chinese teacher of SCLS DDHS.
Apart from teaching and academic research, Jiaqi is also responsible for the organization and coordination of various student activities to instruct and guide students participating various competitions, such as United States Academic Decathlon, student club activities, student council, volunteering work at Nursing Home and ECA modules.
Year 10
To initiate lesson of self-awareness and to cultivate students' habits of disciplinary quality and time management. To inspire students independently understand their studying targets and understand their advantages and shortcomings. To assist students with their extra-curriculum activities such as society events, competitions, and group projects through which they could understand each other better and be aware of trending social topics from their companions. To help students understand themselves and each other through a year of counseling activity, and better facilitate their communication skills that are not only beneficial for good family relationship but also for their study, life, and application for the later two years in high school. To introduce oversea universities systematically and specifically and help students understand the characteristics of different courses.
Year 11
To instruct students choosing the direction that suits their potential, ability, and characters. To help students recognize their potential paths in leadership, community service, recreation and performance, or academics, upon which we design the most appropriate plan on the basis of students individually. To help students further understand overseas universities and structure the direct conversation between students and admission officers. To direct students develop their self-research on their subject for the future college, and to confirm their decisions. On this basis, to guide students completing necessary writing materials and university selection.
Year 12
To push the application process in the first semester, synchronizing with students’ application progress. To assure all students submitting their application by the end of the first semester during which the draft and guidance for writing materials would be the primary concern. To carry out pre-university sessions during the second term, organizing seminars from teachers and alumni from different backgrounds that would include but not limited to topics such as personal security, drugs, cultural assimilation, campus communication, academic authenticity, and personal networking that would help students to better accommodate future life in campus and in working.
