As families, teachers, school leaders, and special guests filled the theater, our graduates entered with smiles on their faces, pride in their hearts, and excitement for the journey ahead. It was a wonderful reminder of how much they have grown and how ready they are to embrace the next chapter of their learning.
The ceremony featured heartfelt addresses from our leadership team, parent representative Ms. Tang (Kate Cheng's mother), and our Grade 5 Grade Level Leader and teacher, Mr. Travis Howard.
One of the highlights of the morning was Mr. Howard's inspiring address. Earlier this year, he challenged his students to express themselves through SLAM poetry by writing and performing one of his own poems as an example. During the ceremony, he performed that same poem once again, encouraging students to embrace the future with courage, confidence, and hope. It was a powerful reminder that great teachers not only inspire learning, they inspire lives.
The ceremony also included the presentation of the Principal's Award to Claire Liu in recognition of her outstanding character, leadership, resilience, perseverance, and commitment to our school values. Claire's ability to overcome challenges with courage and determination has inspired both her classmates and teachers throughout the year.
Another meaningful tradition was our Time Capsule Ceremony. Each graduate placed a personal letter into a time capsule, filled with dreams, hopes, memories, and reflections. These letters will be opened at their Grade 12 graduation, reminding students of who they were and the dreams they held as Grade 5 learners.
Each student proudly crossed the stage to receive a Grade 5 diploma, greeted by enthusiastic applause from family members, friends, and teachers.
The ceremony concluded with heartfelt student performances that beautifully expressed gratitude to their teachers, families, and classmates, providing a joyful ending to a memorable celebration.
As I reflected during my address, I realized that what I will remember most are not only the major school events, but also the everyday moments that make a school feel like home: conversations in the hallways, smiles across the playground, cheerful "Good morning, Dr. Pitre!" greetings at the White House, and the countless opportunities to watch these students learn, lead, laugh, and grow.
Throughout the year, our Grade 5 students demonstrated what it truly means to live our PRIDE values. They persevered through challenges, took responsibility for their learning, showed integrity in their choices, made safe decisions, and treated others with kindness and respect. Those qualities cannot be measured by a report card alone. They reflect the character and resilience of the young people they have become.
For some students, SCLS has been home since kindergarten. Others joined our community more recently. Regardless of when their journey began, every member of the Class of 2026 has left a lasting mark on our Primary School.
Now, our graduates stand at the beginning of a new bridge. For many, that bridge will lead to SCLS Middle School. For others, it will lead to new schools, new communities, and exciting opportunities around the world. Wherever that bridge may take them, we know they are ready for the journey ahead.
One of the wonderful things about bridges is that they connect us to new beginnings without asking us to forget where we have come from. Although classrooms may change and new adventures await, every one of our graduates will always remain a cherished part of the SCLS Primary School International Division family.
