Spring Hightlights | Her Story“她”的力量,值得被看见

May 18,2023

Do you know about International Women's Day? It is an amazing holiday that celebrates women's fabulous successes from around the world! Long ago, women were not treated fairly or acknowledged for their contributions. Therefore, the first Women's Day was created and celebrated on February 28, 1909. However, it has now changed to be internationally recognized on March 8th of every year.

You may be wondering why this is so important to us or why we even celebrate it? Well, Women's Day is celebrated because we want to acknowledge and recognize women's rights, gender equality, and the great contributions they have made. It is important because we want to let the world know all about the great achievements that women made and continue to make in society.

We interviewed some students from grade two to find out more about a project they were working on. These students interviewed women in their lives that had made a positive impact to them and their communities. Students learned more about the women they look up, women that have motivated them and women that they were most thankful for. They learned so much about these amazing women.

On International Women's Day, the second graders even interviewed Mrs. Sobo, our principal and Madame Feng, the head of our school. Mrs. Sobo gave the great advice to remember that“life is like the ocean. We just need to learn how to ride the waves, the ups and downs and surf through life”.

As a school, we wore the color purple to show our appreciation for the women in our lives. If a student didn’t have purple, we created purple stickers for them to wear.  As a fun activity, we passed out butterflies and flowers to each classroom. Students filled out the sheets with messages about the most important women in their lives. We then put them on a bulletin board for everyone see all the great impacts that women have.

We hope that learned more about why women are so important to us.
