In March, Soong Ching Ling School organized diverse activities for South Africa Week. Mrs. Elizaboth Thage, wife of the South African Consul General and other officials from the Consulate General of South Africa in Shanghai attended the opening ceremony. Accompanied by African music, students from the school performed a beautiful local dance.
Madame Feng Lirong, Principal of Soong Ching Ling School, stated that in 2005 Chinese President Xi Jinping and South African President Zuma jointly announced the opening of the "Chinese Year" in South Africa, which wrote a new chapter for cultural exchanges between two countries. “Last year, Mrs. Elizaboth Thage visited Soong Ching Ling School and established the friendship between South Africa and our school. She said, “Through activities in South Africa Week, we encourage the students to learn about the country, its unique history and cultural background. We want them to enhance the friendship and cooperation between two countries through learning and sharing.
The South Africa Week activities not only included local handicraft display and story sharing, but also sports games and quizzes of South African style organized by the Consulate General in Shanghai. Students were immersed in a different and fantastic culture in three days of rich activities.
