LIBRARY WEEK | We Read with PRIDE!

Dec 02,2021

LIBRARY WEEK

Last November 8-12, Primary School students celebrated Library Week. In Primary School, teachers have been working with our students in showing their PRIDE (Perseverance, Responsible, Integrity, Do What's Safe, Earn and Give Respect) in and out of the school. We want to encourage them to remember these virtues also when they read, so this year's theme was "We read with PRIDE".

Grades 1-5 were each assigned a letter from PRIDE and they used those in their designs for the Bookmark Design Contest.

With our goal to promote a joyful and nurturing reading environment -- not only in school but also at home-- we invited Book Win to hold a book fair for our students. This is always a highly anticipated Library Week event! Our students happily browsed and purchased from the great selection of titles Book Win showcased this year.

Throughout the week, students from grades 2-5 had a Library quiz where a group from each class competed by answering some questions about PRIDE and what they had discussed during library lessons.

On Wednesday, our first grade students had a fun time at "Read with the Principals" where they got to listen to the English story read by our Principal, Ms. Sobo, or to the Chinese story read by our Vice Principal, Ms. Sun. "Do unto Otters: a book about manners" by Laurie Keller was chosen by Ms. Sobo while Ms. Sun read a classic Chinese story about the snow child saving his friend rabbit.

The Library Week ended with DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time on Friday. Students from Grades 1-4 were partnered with another class while Grade 5 stayed in their classroom.
