π Day|Explore the beauty of mathematics

March 14th is the “International Mathematics Day”, also known as the “π Day (Pi Day)”, which aims to pay a tribute to those great mathematicians who have made contributions to the development of mathematics, and to their wonderful achievements.

Many colorful activities were held in SCLS this year. Let's explore the wonderful world of mathematics through π Day!

The logo of this year’s π Day of SCLS is designed by Yu Kexin, a student from DDMS. A logo selection was held last year online. Her design was voted as the champion by the students to be used as the logo for 2021.

The 4th graders of DDPS are so focused in the 24-Point Competitions.  Both the competitors and the spectators are deeply immersed in the event.

In IDPS, Grade 1 students painted T-shirts with π related symbols and numbers according to their own understanding and imagination. This event is supposed to help students understand π through color and structure and feel the beauty of mathematics.

In DDMS, students played traditional mathematics games such as Klotski and Rubik's cube. At the mathematics forum, Wang Yichen, a DDHS senior and chairman of the student’s union, attended and shared his experience of studying mathematics and applying for overseas universities.

In addition to the online communication with Professor Ni Yi, DDHS held their academic forum where several students from Grade 10 to Grade 12 shared their research topics, including “Mathematics & Music” from Zheng, “Mathematics Problems in Chinese Welfare Lottery” from Zhang.

IDMS&HS students assembled and lined up to make the shape of numbers 1-9. They posed a shape of “314”, and left the impression with aerial photography technology, as a special gift to the π Day.

The annual π Day events in SCLS have been held for 5 years since 2017. As the saying goes, "Mathematics is fun; Mathematics is everywhere". Through these wonderful activities, SCLS inspired students' interest in learning mathematics and created an atmosphere of loving mathematics.
