Fifth TEDxSoongChingLingSchool Event
As the music arpeggiated and the drumbeats hit in the theme video, our hearts palpitated with extreme excitement and anticipation, for it was the moment when countless hours of deconstructing and reconstructing paid off—the start of the fifth TEDxSoongChingLingSchool event.
Rewind to the Event
The “Deconstruct, Reconstruct” event itself is revolutionary. As the first TEDx event hosted at SCLS in the post-pandemic era, it attracted over 100 audiences filling up the theater! Through the collaboration between the designers and the executive managers, for the first time, we provided multiple choices of meticulously made souvenirs–– pigeon puzzle, logo keychain, and collage notebook––made possible by the implementation of our executive managers! At the beginning of the show, the videos made by the video production Lead throughout the years set the mood perfectly and showed the legacy of our event. The words now displayed in front of you are drafted by the communications directors and revised by our sponsor teachers. Together, we witnessed the growth of our team and event; together, we again challenged the expectations of the young generation.
Following the welcoming of our young hosts, Isabelle and Victoria, the fifth TEDxSoongChingLingSchool officially started.
Speakers
Zhang He
Mr. Zhang He shed light upon the innovative prosthetic hand design he has accomplished, which potentially offers millions of disabled people brand-new opportunities to live a more complete life.
Keefe Chang (G8)
Keefe discussed how we should interpret and gain advantage from these millions of ideas, and told us all about how the three words “conditions, ideas, and future” connect under the title “Localizing Ideas”.
Cherry Shen (G9)
Cherry explored the psychological concept, resistance, which could result in procrastination but can potentially make us find our lifelong passion. As for Cherry, it's music.
Billy Tang (G11)
Billy shared a heartwarming story with his family, advocating for reconstructing a different parent-child relationship––to be friends with your family.
Addison Zheng (G12)
Addison unearthed the power of stories and warned of the dangers of stereotypes through two personal funny anecdotes, inspiring us to view ourselves from different perspectives.
Sophia Ji (G12)
Sophia, as the TEDx Lead Organizer and the final student speaker of the event, shared what she has learned from her leadership and community service projects and sang beautifully the song, "Both Sides Now", inviting students to reflect on themselves.
Chang Peng Chien
Mr. Chang Peng Chien talked about integrating green technology and sustainability to reconstruct a “New Feng Shui” that will determine the future of architecture through past projects he had taken part in.

Thank you!
Over the past months, the TEDxSoongChingLingSchool Team has worked tirelessly to put on a flawless event, from constructing the theme and its concept, deconstructing the areas of improvement in the plan and speech drafts, to reconstructing a better show. Thank you to all team members and sponsor teachers who contributed their time and efforts to the event!
The event is officially over. Yet the deconstruction and reconstruction of our lives, society, and even our world will never end. This puzzle piece is now in your hands and it depends on you how to finish the puzzle (or not).
See you next year!
Ideas worth spreading.
